Fast Hands
90 minute, color, 35mm, comedy drama
This is a story about a proud, vivacious Chinese mother
who risks the family s successful barbecue meat business
in a high-stakes gamble to win a wife for her son. A
funny and poignant look at human nature, Fast Hands
is a comedic commentary on how we can obsess and become
neurotic...even with good intentions. Anyone who
has had to confront the "old" world meeting
the "new" in ethnic family life will enjoy
this touching and light-hearted tale.
Monitoring her handsome son s nonexistent social activities
for months, proud barbecue meat store owner Fast Hands
Pong has come to the conclusion that'sonny is either
gay or has problems with his "plumbing." She
secretly sets out to rectify the situation by "curing"
him with Chinese herbs and then attempts to find him
an appropriate wife in a comical selection process. When
rumors of her son s supposed problems start to spread
amongst her gossipy friends, Fast Hands takes drastic
measures to win a wife for him in a high-stakes gamble
that puts the family meat business on the chopping block!
Fast Hands is a comedy that will appeal to everyone. It
creates strong and positive character roles for Asian
men and women, and looks at family life in a non-traditional
Chinese setting. The challenges of pride, change,
and love are dealt with in a fun, yet poignant, style
that will make you laugh and cry.
On the tails of her documentary series on taboos in
the Chinese culture, screenwriter/director Daisy
Lee Garripoli blows the cover off old, Western images
of Chinese immigrants in this witty, macabre comedy
of "eros."
